Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties used to visit this place annually to perform ceremonies and pray for bountiful harvests. The park surrounding the temple buzzes with life, especially in the mornings when local elderly residents gather for singing, exercising, and practicing tai chi. Spanning 273 hectares in the south of Central Beijing, the park offers a pleasant 1-1½ hour (1½ kilometer) walk, graded as easy.
