Mooncakes, Ping Pong & Mahjong: October at That’s Mandarin
Mooncakes, Ping Pong & Mahjong: October at That’s Mandarin
Time flies!
October is already coming to an end 🍁
As the weather cools down, we’ve been moving our fun indoors — learning, singing, cooking, and creating together.
Let’s take a look back at all the amazing things we’ve done this month 💛
Celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival
At our Chengdu Campus, we gathered together to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The students discovered the story behind this traditional Chinese festival, and tasted traditional treats — mooncakes, or 月饼 (yuèbing) – and even tried making their own 🥮
Welcoming Orientations
For all our Intensive Group students, the journey begins with Orientation. It’s a chance to meet classmates, get to know our teachers, and start building connections from day one.
A warm welcome to all our new students joining us this season — an exciting learning adventure awaits!
Taking Chinese to… the Restaurant!
Who says you can’t learn Chinese at a restaurant?
From reading the menu and ordering in Chinese to exploring China’s rich food culture, our Intensive Group Course students enjoyed both a feast for the stomach and a boost to their language skills 🥢
Discovering the Art of Blow Painting
Brushes? Not needed!
Just a straw, ink, and a burst of imagination 🖌️
At our Shanghai campus, students explored blow painting – 吹墨画 (chuīmò huà) — watching black ink dance across paper and blossom into something unique 🪄
Making Tea Pastries
At our Beijing and Suzhou campuses, students rolled up their sleeves to make Chinese tea pastries – 茶点 (chádiǎn) – by hand.
From kneading the dough to shaping delicate treats, they tasted both the sweet flavors of Chinese culture and the joy of learning Mandarin 🍵
Mahjong, Mahjong
And of course, this month, we all met again to 吃 (chī) and 碰 (pèng) together. Mahjong Nights have become one of everyone’s favorite activities at That’s Mandarin — proving that a good game can bring together people from all backgrounds and nationalities 💛
Do you have your personal strategy yet?
Are you a fan of 自摸 (zìmō)-ing – quietly collecting your winning hand in secret – or do you prefer to 吃 (chī) and 碰 (pèng) your way to victory?
Join our next Mahjong night and start 胡(hú)-ing 😎🀄️
Ping-Pong!
Finally, the highlight of this month in Beijing and Shanghai was playing table tennis – or 乒乓球 pīngpāngqiú – together 🏓
Bonus: Break Time Fun
When does the fun on campus stop? Never!
Even during class breaks, our students and teachers find time to have some good old fun. Take a look at Beijing moments from this month ✨
You next month’s motivation: don’t be shy and come out to practice your 中文 (Zhōngwén) with other learners!
We’re all here to learn and grow 💛
We can’t wait to organize more exciting cultural and language activities.
See you at the next one!
At That’s Mandarin, we believe language learning goes far beyond the classroom. From real-world experiences to cultural immersion, our Intensive Course helps students connect with Chinese on a deeper, more personal level:
- 5 days a week
- Intensive Chinese study
- Location: one of 5 cities in China
- Cultural activities every month
