Hiking, Paper-Cutting & KTV: November at That’s Mandarin
Hiking, Paper-Cutting & KTV: November at That’s Mandarin
Time flies – 时光飞逝 shíguāng fēishì!
As cities slowly dress up for the winter holidays, it’s time for us to step into the final month of 2025.
But before we do, let’s look back at 十一月 (shíyīyuè) — the month of November — and revisit all the cool activities we enjoyed last month!
Grocery Shopping… in 中文
What’s your favourite fruit in China?
Can you buy it in Chinese?
How about bargaining for the best price?
Our Intensive Group students are becoming pros at this 😎
Hosting a Bilingual Party
At our Chengdu campus, students took on an even more challenging task—discussing everything in two (or more) languages!
Switching between languages and helping others learn your language while you practice Chinese — it’s a wonderful activity that builds connection and completely takes away the fear of speaking.
Well done, Chengdu 💪🏻
Rope Skipping (Between Classes)
The grace. The speed. The precision ✨
At our Shanghai campus, students tested their skills with a traditional Chinese sport – 跳绳 (tiàoshéng), or rope skipping.
Back to childhood!
Hiking in Hangzhou
When you’ve got mountains nearby, hiking is a must!
And our Hangzhou students did just that 🍂
As the weather turned pleasantly cool, our Hangzhou students set out for a hike along the famous Hui-Hang Ancient Trail — a historic route once linking Zhejiang and Anhui — together with friends and family.
Getting Crafty with Paper Cutting ✂️
For some cultural immersion, students at our Shanghai campus joined a Snowflake Paper Cutting workshop.
Take a look at the beautiful snowflakes they created—just a little imagination and patience can go a long way!
Practicing Calligraphy
Meanwhile, at our Beijing campus, students tried calligraphy for the first time.
Holding a brush, controlling each stroke, and writing Chinese characters is a mini-adventure in itself 🖌️
KTV-ing 🎤
At our Shanghai campus, November was truly a month of shining 🪩✨
New stars (singing in Chinese, of course) were born!
Stepping out of your comfort zone and performing — especially in a foreign language — is no easy task.
Well done, Shanghai 💛
Bonus: 糖画 Tánghuà!
If you happened to be at our Shanghai campus that day, you might have wondered:
What’s with all the candy?!
Well, 糖画 (tánghuà), or sugar painting, is a traditional edible art form 🍭
It’s both 好看 (hǎokàn) and 好吃 (hǎochī)!
We can’t wait to organize more exciting cultural and language activities.
See you at the next one!
